Shree Barunkumar Pal

Shree Barunkumar was initiated in to the classical music when he was only five years old by his father, Shree Bankimkumar Pal, himself a Sitar player of Ustad Enayat Khan Gharana. He started playing classical music on Guitar as a soloist and orchestra player on All India Radio in 1951. Fascinated by Hawaiian Guitar, he made basic improvisations and experiments by adding extra strings (known as CHIKARI) and sympathetic strings (known as TARAB). His efforts and earnestness to bring recognition and status as an Indian Classical Music Instrument to Hawaiian Guitar, moved the great Musician and Guru, Pandit Ravi Shankar who took him under his tutelage. Due to his sustained and rigorous training under the Great Maestro, Pandit Ravi Shankar, Shree Barunkumar has emerged as an excellent player of this instrument. Recently Pandit Ravi Shankar has presented "Hansa-Veena" to Shree Barunkumar. It is for the first time in the U.S. that he is going to play this instrument.
