Shree Suresh Benegal

Suresh Benegal was introduced to harmonium playing at the age of 7 by two of his Uncles, both of who were accomplished harmonium players and singers. His guidance in Hindustani Classical music came from his Sister Malathi Benegal Vijapure who was a disciple of Pt. K. D. Javkar of Bombay - an exponent of the Kirana Gharana.

Suresh has been active in both Hindustani Classical and Light music circles in Northeast U. S. since 1985 and has accompanied several visiting artists such as Ghulam Mustafa Khan, Padmaja Phenani, Sanjeev Abhyankar, Suneel Mungee, Atul Vyas, Kankana Bannerjee and Upendara Bhat. He regularly accompanies several local artists and is currently working in the production of a stage show based on 1950s Hindi Film music, along with Dr. Meena Nerurkar of Pennsylvania. Since 1999 he has been teaching keyboard playing and light vocal music to several local students.
